Slow Down
What’s the priority? Completing the task as swiftly as possible or enjoying the task for as long as it lasts?
The honest answer is, “it depends”
But in a culture hyper focused on productivity more and more people are opting for the expeditious route for more and more things.
We’re all in a rush to get to the next project, next destination, next day, or next milestone.
Then what? What elaborate story are you telling yourself to rationalize the haste in which you navigate the majority of your life?
We’re all guilty of it! We defend our speed, and this defense is largely built on the illusion that if we could only keep this pace for a bit longer we’ll arrive sooner at the destination where we’ll be “better off”.
Speed is always a choice. A choice rooted in the desire for control. But it’s an illusion.
The peace you're seeking won’t come from getting “somewhere” “faster”.
It will come when you make time to focus on what’s most important to you.
It will come when you let go of trying to do everything as efficiently as possible and start being more intentional about building a meaningful life.
Hurrying is often the result of a lack of prioritizing the most important things in our life.
When we perpetually find ourselves in a hurry it is not because of our packed schedules. It’s our muddled priorities!
Sadly, the more we hurry the more disordered our priorities become. We “don’t have time” for the significant things, because we must tend to the urgent.
Dallas Willard stated it best when he said, “Hurry is the great enemy of spiritual life in our day.”
Busyness comes from the false belief that you are going to miss out somehow if you don’t get it all done, now! It is rooted in a lack of faith.
Busyness is an elaborate excuse! It is one of the greatest barriers to being present, and for most of us it is really a compulsive search for affirmation and approval.
Paradoxically, slowly, is the fastest way to get to where you want to go.
We move faster when we slow down.
"Slow is smooth, smooth is fast."
