Seize The Shift

Seize The Shift

Transitions are formative. Something to be seized, not avoided.

We cannot stay static!

Change is happening in and around us all the time, whether you want it to or not!

This change works both ways.

Be it intentional or passive, the transitions of life are shaping everything we do.

Good or Bad. For better or worse, it’s happening.

We know this intuitively, as we’ve all experienced the tension between the current and the coming.

This tension exists because transitioning from the familiar to the unknown naturally brings varying amounts of perceived stress and hardships.

Again, this tension is natural, and not something we can avoid.

In fact, we make it worse when we continue to engage in the former when life is inviting us into something new.

The surest way to become less capable is to stay in your comfort zone.

Unfortunately, as we perceive ourselves to be becoming “more established” we become less interested in transitions. We’d rather not deal with the discomfort of change.

Worse, we actively resist transitions with the hopes of holding onto the familiar, undermining all the development that brought us to this point in our lives.

Transitional periods are profoundly formative for our ongoing development because they introduce change, uncertainty, and new demands.

These are ideal conditions for growth, prompting us to consider our beliefs, capabilities, and identity.

Carol Dweck theorized in her pioneering work on growth mindset that our mindset is crystallized in dealing with the hardships of transitions.

Stated simply, our response to change best reveals our mindset!

How you handle the adversity of change is more revealing than how you handle success.

Transitions challenge our existing frameworks by forcing us to confront the limitations of familiar ways of thinking and behaving.

Ask yourself: Are those familiar routines still serving you?

Seize The Shift

“To think is easy. To act is hard, but the hardest thing in the world is to act in accordance with your thinking" - Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

It is easy to read an inspiring statement on social media and think to yourself, “it’s time to change!”

It is a little harder to take the action of seriously evaluating your current state against your desired state and mapping out a strategy to close that gap.

The hardest thing in the world is to think, “this is no longer serving me” and then take the appropriate actions necessary to create the alignment you need to reestablish integrity in your life.

This process starts with a shift in perspective!

Seek the transitions in your life and leverage them by allowing them to pull you out of your comfort zone.

Each transition offers a chance to develop new skills, strengthen our character, and build our resilience.

Find the seasonality in your life, create some rhythms, and the next time you start to sense that familiar tension seize the shift!

Step into that transition and allow yourself to be transformed for the better.
