What Just Happened: The Power of Environments
Have you ever wondered how your environment is shaping your beliefs?
What we believe influences what we perceive, and we experience what we perceive of our world, NOT reality.
Case in point, my scalp has always been dry, resulting in annoying but manageable dandruff.
I’ve always considered this a “me issue”, something I’d have to deal with.
As with all “problems”, in the modern world, the proposed solutions are always additive.
In my case, it was always… you need more of this shampoo, this supplement, or this ointment, etc..
We rarely give much thought to the environmental influences on the issue at hand, instead we just keep adding more to the environment.
I’m the same way, I treat the environment as a constant or fixed variable and work on all the other possible means of addressing things.
Not once was my environment considered as a potential source of my dry scalp.
Well, one shower at the beach reminded me of just how powerful the environment is.
I’m not exaggerating when I say I could feel the transformation happening in real time. It was like I was showering in holy water.
My skin was rehydrated, my scalp was dandruff free, and my hair was so smooth.
No special shampoos, ointments, or lotions.
Just a new environment with a different (“softer’) water source.
By simply entering a new environment the results I wanted presented effortlessly.
I can’t help but think about how this lesson correlates to our high-performance pursuits.
Maybe our environment has fooled us into thinking the possible is impossible?
Maybe our environment is the real source of a limited belief we’ve been holding?
